The GK-55 was built in the Kalamazoo plant in 1979. Supposedly only a 1000 left the factory and sold. The GK-55 was the predecessor to the Les Paul Special. It was basically a stripped down version of a 1955 Les Paul aimed at the Budget market that couldn’t afford a Standard or Custom model. Featured a Bolt-on Neck, T-Top Pickups, No Binding and simple dot neck inlays. The GK refers to Gibson / Kalamazoo.
